2016 Winter Storm Hits Cacapon (January 24, 2016) — Winter Storm Jonas buried parts of the area in and around our community under snow. The storm hit on January 23 and 24, 2016. After digging out, some residents landed across Route 522 at Cacapon Resort State Park. (The hill by the lodge was perfect for sledding!)
Bear Warning: Advice for our Community (November 14, 2015) — Several property owners have recently seen evidence that indicates that a bear is present in our community. Last fall and now early this spring, a bear was sighted and has done some damage to our community. Property owners have recently reported bird feeders and trash containers being disturbed. Dollar General Lawsuit Fails (October 2, 2015) — A Morgan County Circuit Court judge notified county officials on October 1 that he had issued a ruling in their favor in a civil land planning suit. The suit, which was filed by six county property owners in March, claimed that the Morgan County Planning Commission had not followed its own procedural rules when it granted seven waivers to developers interested in creating a commercial building lot for a proposed Dollar General
Will a Dollar General Open on US 522 and Oakland? (February 1, 2015) — A public notice (shown below) published in The Morgan Messenger says a Dollar General store may be built at the corner of Oakland Road and U.S. 522. The notice states a public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, in the Morgan County Commission meeting room at the Courthouse in Berkeley Springs, WV.
Cacapon State Park Project Advances (October 3, 2014) — Morgan County Commissioner Stacy Dugan issued the following statement about the push to expand Cacapon State Park: “Good news to share! The WV Legislature finished our regular session last week and a week-long extended session. “The $24 million project for improvements at Cacapon State Park was finalized. The project includes a 79-room lodge addition with a spa and pool. This is great news for Morgan County and our struggling tourism industry.
