About Wildlife in our Community (September 19, 2018) – Bears, deer, coyotes, and other wildlife are present in many urban, suburban, and rural communities. It is a fact of modern life that human development has greatly encroached upon wildlife habitats. Cacapon South is certainly no exception to this, especially since it lies between Cacapon State Park and Sleepy Creek Wildlife Refuge. As recently as June 2017, the Board has sent messages to the community with suggestions related to this issue.
Update: US 522 Bypass News (June 15, 2018) — A small contingent of the 522 Bypass Task Force members attended a meeting in Martinsburg coordinated by Senator Charles Trump with Secretary of Transportation Thomas Smith, Engineer Aaron Gillespie, and others who accompanied them. Residents concerns will be considered The bypass map presented at the public meeting in April is NOT final. Bear Update (May 1, 2017) — There have been several reports of break-ins by the community bear. These consisted of two break-ins each of a shed on MDG way, and a garage passage door on Marjorie Court. In all cases, the doors were severely damaged and required substantial repair. The bear was evidently after bird seed stored inside both sites since the owners had brought the bird seed inside each night. Takeaway: Residents should store bird seed inside airtight containers.
Cacapon South Bear Photos (November 1, 2016) — The bear that has been reported out and about near Cacapon South was seen by two neighbors, Mark Schaffeld and Rich Petrushun. They got a couple of photos – shown below – which they have shared with us.
